The mission of the Missouri Safety Center is to promote safety in Missouri and the Nation. The Missouri Safety Center, through its collaborations, strives to prevent injury and death through technology transfer, instruction, research, and public service. In collaboration with the Institute for Rural Emergency Management (IREM) and the Crisis and Disaster Management Program at the University of Central Missouri, the Missouri Safety Center coordinates training, technical assistance, outreach, and research in a number of areas related to rural communities, including traffic and transportation safety, public safety for first responders, and crisis and disaster management. UCM is the only university in the U.S. to create a community outreach center (IREM) focused on the emergency management needs of rural America.
